LCA’s founder John Kemp, graduated from the University of Michigan LS&A and Law Colleges before passing the Illinois Bar in 1963 at the age of 23. John worked for the Chicago firm of Chapman and Cutler where is practice was primarily creditor work for, among others, Harris Bank and the FDIC as Receiver of an Illinois Bank. In 1974 John started the law firm of Kemp, Klein which has just celebrated its 5oth Anniversary. In addition to working for his law firm, John also served as Chief Assistant for a US Senator for selecting federal judges and US attorneys.
In 1988, John founded LCA with four other investors who remain as investors and server on LCA’s Board of Directors. John has served LCA as Chairman of the Board and CEO, since 1988.
CEO, Lease Corporation of America and LCA Bank Corporation
Jeffery Sugg is the Chief Executive Officer of Lease Corporation of America and its subsidiary LCA Bank Corporation. As CEO, he is responsible for all aspects of the organization. Mr. Sugg joined LCA in April 2017. Prior to joining LCA, Mr. Sugg was the Chief Financial Officer at First Independence Bank in Detroit, Michigan. Before First Independence Bank, Mr. Sugg was at Paramount Bank in Farmington Hills, Michigan where he served at various times as CEO, President and CFO. Mr. Sugg joined Paramount Bank in 1997 after serving as Chief Financial Officer for three years at Sterling Bank & Trust in Southfield, MI.
Jeff began his career as a Senior Bank Examiner at the Office of Thrift Supervision. He received his bachelor's degree (BBA-Finance) in 1987 from the University of Toledo. As a CFO at various banking institutions, Mr. Sugg has successfully developed and implemented several strategic and capital plans that have resulted in significant earning and common equity accretion. Specifically at First Bank the strategic plan which included revenue enhancement and cost-containment strategies, resulted in record earnings, an upgrade of the bank to a five-star Bauer rating and a regulatory upgrade. At the same time he developed and implemented a capital plan which included a complete restructuring of the holding company's capital stock. The earnings improvement and capital stock restructuring resulted in over a 100% improvement in a less than two-year period to the book value of common equity.
President, Lease Corporation of America and COO of LCA Bank Corporation
Jill Vogel is the President of Lease Corporation of America and COO of LCA Bank Corporation. Before being named President in March 2021, Jill has held various roles during her 25 years with the organization. Most recently, Jill has been responsible for the operations of the organization with her oversight of Credit, Documentation, Customer Service, Collections and Information Technology. She also leads the team that provided Paycheck Protection Program loans to borrowers. She oversees the risk management monitoring, internal and regulatory audits as well as policy creation. As President, Jill takes on the role of leading the organization to the next level in its technology and offerings to its customers.
Jill holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Walsh College. She has also earned the Certified Lease & Financial Professional designation.
President, LCA Bank Corporation
Laura has more than 30 years of combined experience in the industrial banking industry and as a financial institutions regulator. She joined LCA Bank in 2008 as VP-CFO and became President in August 2018. During her tenure, she’s had a variety of responsibilities in bank administration, financial reporting, risk management and policy development. Prior to LCA Bank, Laura was a compliance examiner for the FDIC. Prior to that, she served as VP and CFO of Universal Financial Corp. (UFC), a Utah-chartered Industrial Bank owned by CitiGroup. She had a variety of roles, including financial reporting, compliance, developing a CRA Strategic Plan, and implementing a Sarbanes-Oxley-compliant self-assessment program. Prior to UFC, Laura was VP-Internal Audit for GE Capital Financial, a Utah-chartered Industrial Bank owned by GE Capital, where she developed relevant audit programs to better manage all areas of risk. Laura began her career as a financial institutions examiner for the Utah Department of Financial Institutions.
Laura received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Utah and subsequently earned a Certified Internal Auditor designation.
Chief Financial Officer, Lease Corporation of America and LCA Bank Corporation
As Chief Financial Officer, Lease Corporation of America and LCA Bank Corporation, Travis Soto is responsible for the management and direction of all the company’s financial functions, including accounting, audit, treasury, tax, and regulatory financial compliance. His career spans nearly 25 years in various finance and treasury related roles.
Prior to joining LCA in 2019, Travis served as Treasurer for EnerBank USA, a $2.5B Utah based industrial bank. He also served in senior finance and operations roles for the award-winning Utah Educational Savings Plan (UESP) and Green Dot Corporation, an innovative financial technology company. From 2001 to 2014 he served as Treasurer for Merrick Bank, a multi-billion-dollar, consumer-focused Utah industrial Bank.
Mr. Soto holds a Master of Business Management from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Utah. Mr. Soto is also an Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) and Certified Treasury Professional (CTP).
