John Kemp is Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of LCA and Chairman of the Board of LCA Bank. Under Mr. Kemp’s leadership, Lease Corporation of America Group has underwritten over $1.25 billion of micro and small ticket transactions involving more than 90,000 leases. As a practicing attorney, Mr. Kemp has devoted his career to representing financial institutions and businesses. He co-founded the law firm of Kemp, Klein, Umphrey & Endelman and has extensive experience as a drafter of a wide variety of loan documents and as a litigator enforcing these documents. In later years Mr. Kemp’s practice migrated from trial work to negotiating contractual arrangements including mergers and acquisitions. As counsel for early software companies, Mr. Kemp created one of the first software licenses ever used and subsequently enforced the licensor’s proprietary interests. Mr. Kemp also created a number of tax deferral vehicles including the use of reinsurance companies. As an officer and director of several privately held insurance companies, Mr. Kemp has significant lending and investment experience. Mr. Kemp is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and his law degree. In addition to being a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Illinois Bar, he is also a member of the Chicago, Detroit, Oakland County and American Bar Associations.
Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President
Jeffery Sugg is the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer and a Senior Vice President of Lease Corporation of America. As CFO, he is responsible for all of the financial accounting, treasury and tax matters of LCA. In addition, the Information Technology and Human Resource Departments report to him. Mr. Sugg joined LCA in April 2017. Prior to joining LCA, Mr. Sugg was the Chief Financial Officer at First Indepencence Bank in Detroit, Michigan. Before First Independence Bank, Mr. Sugg was at Paramount Bank in Farmington Hills, Michigan where he served at various times as CEO, President and CFO. Mr. Sugg joined Paramount Bank in 1997 after serving as Chief Financial Officer for three years at Sterling Bank & Trust in Southfield, MI. Mr. Sugg began his career as a Senior Bank Examiner at the Office of Thrift Supervision. He received his bachelor's degree (BBA-Finance) in 1987 from the University of Toledo. As a CFO at various banking institutions, Mr. Sugg has successfully developed and implemented several strategic and capital plans that have resulted in significant earning and common equity accretion. Specifically at First Bank the strategic plan which included revenue enhancement and cost-containment strategies, resulted in record earnings, an upgrade of the bank to a five-star Bauer rating and a regulatory upgrade. At the same time he developed and implemented a capital plan which included a complete restructuring of the holding company's capital stock. The earnings improvement and capital stock restructuring resulted in over a 100% improvement in a less than two-year period to the book value of common equity.
Senior Vice President of Credit and Originations and President of LCAB
Timothy Talbert is LCA’s Senior Vice President of Credit and Originations and President of LCA Bank (LCAB). His principal responsibilities include development and maintenance of LCAB’s credit policies and credit scoring parameters. During his tenure, Mr. Talbert has implemented a number of changes in LCAB’s credit policy and procedures to more accurately reflect the risks inherent in LCA’s core business. Prior to joining LCA, Mr. Talbert served as Senior Vice President of Asset Based Lending for Huntington National Bank. Before joining Huntington National Bank, he spent a number of years with Comerica Bank in a variety of positions and was instrumental in the formation and start-up of Comerica Leasing. In addition to his responsibilities at LCAB, Mr. Talbert serves as a Director, chairman of the compliance committee and member of the audit committee of Vishay Precision Group, a New York Stock Exchange traded manufacturer of resistive foil technology products and as a director of Vishay Intertechnology Inc., a Fortune 1000 Company listed on the NYSE, one of the world's largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from University of the Pacific and his MBA from the University of Notre Dame.
Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing
As LCA’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Mr. Kemp is responsible for growing and leading LCA’s sales force, overseeing all levels of sales management and marketing, as well as developing and strengthening new and existing manufacturer relationships. Since joining LCA in 1992, Mr. Kemp has been instrumental in the company’s success both in sales and leadership positions. As an Account Executive, Mr. Kemp set numerous sales records including $15 million in new business written – a one year record that still stands today. Under Mr. Kemp’s leadership, LCA was awarded Motorola’s coveted Pinnacle Award for LCA’s continuing and exceptional service to Motorola’s independent dealer network. He has been the catalyst behind the reconstruction of LCA’s sales team. Through his efforts, LCA has created four unique new sales teams. Mr. Kemp is a graduate of the University of Michigan.
